Return to Königsbronn

Georg Elser was considered an often quiet but nonetheless sociable person. He began playing music while at school and joined a traditional costume association in Constance and later the zither club in Königsbronn. Elser played double bass in his local singing club and often at dances. He liked going hiking with friends and was popular with women. His girlfriend Mathilde Niedermann gave birth to Elser’s only son Manfred in 1930.

In May 1932, Maria Elser informed her son Georg about his father’s increasing alcohol problem and asked him for help. Georg Elser returned to Königsbronn in August 1932, once again helping his mother on the farm and his father in his forestry and timber trading work. He also set up a small carpentry workshop in his parents’ house, where he made pieces of furniture. At the end of December 1936, he began working in a fittings factory in Heidenheim.
