Postage Stamp

To mark the hundredth anniversary of Georg Elser’s birth on January 16, 2003, Deutsche Post issued a special postage stamp to commemorate the resistance fighter and honor his assassination attempt.

Previously, the Bremen Georg Elser Initiative under the patronage of Hans Koschnick had called on all Germans to support this special form of honor for Georg Elser and appeal to the Federal Minister of Finance in a postcard and e-card campaign. The campaign “A Stamp for Georg Elser,” which was also supported by the German Resistance Memorial Center and the Georg Elser Memorial Center Königsbronn, prompted success with many hundreds of postcards from all over Germany.

Out of the nine drafts entered for the subsequent competition for the anniversary postage stamp, the design by Professor Ernst Jünger and Lorli Jünger was chosen as the winning version.
